Background
Lorenzo Capponi received the Bachelor and the Master of Science degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Perugia in 2014 and 2017. He is now Ph.D. student in Mechanical Measurements for Engineering and Space at the University of Padova at the “G. Colombo” CISAS, Padova, Italy.

Research project
His current research interests include numerical and experimental analysis, stress and strain measurements, thermoelasticity, vibration fatigue and open source software development.

Background

Research project
I am working in the field of computational fluid dynamics and code development for High Performance Computing (HPC). The main focus of my research activity is the development of a novel numerical technique for the simulation of fluid-structure interaction and hydraulic-fracturing problems based on Peridynamics and Navier-Stokes equations. I am also working on multi-phase flows, turbulent and laminar flows laden with solid/liquid dispersed phases and phase change processes. My expertise in the field of numerics concerns Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS) and Large-Eddy Simulations (LES), Peridynamics, Immersed Boundary Methods (IBM) for complex solid geometries and moving solid boundaries, Volume of fluid and Level-set methods.
